'21 Scholarship Recipients

On Sunday, Just Boxing Foundation President Sean FitzGerald took to Instagram to congratulate recipients of the 2021 BoxingEdu scholarship. The Foundation first announced the scholarship in July, and recently completed a thorough application review process. The process culminated with a Scholarship Selection Committee awarding two $1,200 scholarships to boxers in Southern California.

“Congratulation to Ricardo Mercado and Itari Romero for being awarded the 2021 BoxingEdu scholarship.” Sean posted, “Consider this award a testament to your dedication and perseverance.”

To qualify, recipients had to be experienced boxers enrolled in a public college or university in Southern California. Along with their credentials, boxers were asked to submit a short essay describing the most valuable lessons they’ve learned from the sport. One such lesson was narrated by scholarship recipient Itari Romero:

“The most valuable lesson I’ve learned through boxing has to be evolving… work on yourself in order to succeed in the sport, and become a better version of yourself.”

Just Boxing Foundation hopes to renew the scholarship in 2022, as well as grow opportunities to other parts of country. Supporters can donate to Just Boxing Foundation here.
