There’s been no shortage of foot traffic in Pomona this month as Los Angeles natives flock to the Fairplex to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the LA County Fair. But this past Sunday a different crowd converged just North of the fairgrounds to celebrate an afternoon of amateur boxing at The Derby Room, courtesy of Sweet Science Boxing Gym and Marvnation Promotions. The event dubbed “Sweet Science vs. Everyone” was Sanctioned by USA Boxing, and featured 35 amateur bouts showcasing the future of LA’s boxing scene.
And while most booths at the Fairplex that day peddled fried foods, custom crafts, or carnival games, Just Boxing Foundation had a different goal in mind:
"We're giving gift bags to all of the fighters competing today." said Foundation President, Sean FitzGerald. "It's a small token of our appreciation for all their hard work. They've earned it, and then some."
In addition to the gift bags, Just Boxing Foundation set up a coloring station for kids (and some fun-loving adults) to decorate their own championship belts.
“We had no idea it would be so popular!” Sean laughed. “It’s good fun. I colored one or two myself, but my designs are no match for the creativity and imagination of these young champions out here today.”
Sweet Science vs. Everyone is the second amateur event sponsored by Just Boxing Foundation within the last few months, as the foundation continues their mission to empower future generations of boxers.
